I have always been drawn to the so-called “lost arts”. There is something about using the techniques of the past to make contemporary art that I enjoy. This is why I love mosaic.
I choose my themes often times from the materials that I pick up. I let them speak to me about the course that an artwork will take. I start with sketches and ideas but ultimately, it is the materials that show me the way.
I am interested in natural forms and organic lines. When I was growing up, nature was very important to me and still is. “Topaz Pool” is an exploration of layering glass to mimic layers in rock. I’ve used the agate and natural colored glass to emphasize the natural lines and forms of a curving embankment near a pool.
