I love mosaic for the slowness of the technique. It allows me to meditate on the forms and colors of the materials that I work with. I love that I am using ancient techniques to create contemporary designs.
I often let my materials dictate the course of my works. For “Black River” I used a silver ripple glass that recalled dark water for me. Once I had that idea, the whole composition opened up to me. A river winding around rocks on it’s path through time.
“Black River” recalls a river from my childhood where I spent a good deal of time. Memories are a rich source of material for my mosaic work. As I work on the pieces, things from the past are explored and sometimes resolved.
